Isko Moreno vowed to build cold storage facilities to avoid loss of profits for farmers

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, a candidate for the 2022 presidential election, vowed on Saturday to build storage facilities to avoid wasting agricultural products that would cause farmers to lose profits.
“Food safety is the number one threat to national security,” Moreno said at an online town hall meeting with Filipino workers in Australia.
Moreno said in the Philippines: “That’s why we said that we will build cold storage facilities for fruit, vegetable and fish post-harvest facilities in the region to protect the value of our crops.”
He pointed out that hawkers who can’t sell fish will turn it into “dried fish”-dried fish-to prevent them from spoiling.
On the other hand, farmers would rather throw away the vegetables than take the risk of spoiling on the way to Manila.
